Ariana Grande Recruits Brandy & Monica For A Remix To “the boy is mine”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Getting Monica and Brandy on her “The Boy Is Mine” track is the epitome of a boss move by Ariana Grande.

Doesn’t it seem like Ariana Grande’s Eternal Sunshine album came and went? It’s likely due to the significant attention Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s beef garnered in recent weeks, diverting people’s focus elsewhere. However, there’s one standout track on the album that’s been making a splash in terms of streaming numbers: “the boy is mine.” On Spotify alone, it has accumulated an impressive 190 million streams.

Yesterday, Ariana Grande released a remix of “the boy is mine.” Appropriately, it features Brandy and Monica, the original artists who famously sang about fighting over a boy.

Brandy and Monica’s relationship has been pretty rocky these past few years, largely because of their late ’90s hit, “The Boy Is Mine,” which sparked a rivalry between them. Thankfully, Ariana Grande reunited them for a remix of her track called “the boy is mine.” In it, Brandy and Monica deliver strong performances, sounding like their youthful selves yet much wiser about fighting for the men they love. Though the song features a few too many airy vocals clashing with one another, I really appreciate the nostalgic vibes it gives me.

The only person to fight for a boy longer than Brandy and Monica was Camille.
