zinha Asks “why do you make me wait?”

Rating: 5 out of 5.

A striking pop gem that gorgeously captures the emotional weight of longing for unfulfilled love.

Portuguese-hailing, UK-based zinha (aka Luisa Chumbinho) is an alt-pop singer-songwriter. “In the midst of some cold, long winter months,” the then “part-time waitress Luisa Chumbinho was ready to hand in her notice and take to the bright lights of the UK music scene.” Still, the singer wondered, “how would she find the path to her dreams without a job, post-pandemic?” After chatting with a friend, Josh Christopher (songwriter/producer), the artist came up with the idea for her solo project, zinha. “Now splitting her time between the UK and Portugal again, zinha has made a name for herself, becoming Lisbon’s most prolific busker, earning a full-time wage from her stunning vocal renditions and crowd-pleasing covers at various hotspots around the city.” Her debut EP is expected to drop this summer. zinha’s debut single is the pop song “why do you make me wait?” and its accompanying official video.

Starting out with the subtle sound of a ticking clock, “why do you make me wait?” goes on to offer a compelling combination of soft and soulful piano and sweet R&B elements, creating a hauntingly hypnotic backdrop that beautifully complements the tune’s heart-wrenching tale. Lyrics like “You are, the silence that’s filling my room, and I will sit here so quiet for you” and “You are, the feelings I want to consume, and I will flower, I’m ready to bloom” intimately reflect on yearning for the affection of the artist’s special someone. Fueled by its silky, soaring vocals and a wonderfully timeless sense, zinha gifts us with a striking pop gem that gorgeously captures the emotional weight of longing for unfulfilled love. So press play and experience the power of desire with “why do you make me wait?”.
