5. Think Different

We don’t want you thinking differently, Lucky. Think exactly how you’ve been thinking since you emerged onto the music scene.

OK, I’m going to be completely biased here. The only reason I love this track is that it gives me Channel Orange Frank Ocean vibes. The melodies sound directly from “Super Rich Kids,” while Lucky Daye’s willingness to look within to solve his personal battles is something Frank has been known to do. OK, I think I need a Lucky and Frank collab.

4. Blame (Ft. Teddy Swims)

Teddy Swims might have the most impressive vocal performance on this album.

In “Blame,” Teddy Swims and Lucky Daye mainly talk about how they could’ve improved to be better lovers to their respective partners. I love the track’s strong R&B/bluesy backdrop, both Teddy and Lucky’s forceful singing styles, and the song’s overall purity. What a f**king listen.

3. Soft

“Soft” is a certified hit.

“Soft” by Lucky Daye is incredibly heartwarming. According to Lucky, the song is all about embracing the things society often labels as “soft,” such as cuddling, PDA, hugging, and kissing. It’s also about the magic of love and how it puts a spell on you.

Aside from Lucky Daye’s lovely words, “Soft” also boasts a rock/R&B vibe that is truly captivating, beautiful vocals, stunning melodies, and an overall feel that transports listeners back to the days when Stevie Wonder was exploring beyond the piano.

2. HERicane

Has anyone ever made it snow on a girl?

In “HERicane,” Lucky Daye’s game is on point. He expresses to his girl all he can offer, from taking her to the top floors of buildings to driving in her rainy weather (likely implying some intimate s**t). He definitely successfully proves to her that he is more than someone who is just trying to smash.

This song features a fantastic multi-layered hook, delicate vocals, and a funky, old-school R&B beat that I absolutely adore.

1. That’s You

“That’s You” is the Luckiest Lucky Daye track I’ve ever heard.

“That’s You” showcases why Lucky Daye differs from his peers. In the track, he vividly describes what he’s used to seeing, such as fancy cars and exclusive parties, and what he seems to be missing, such as true love. Knowing he can’t have both, Lucky puts all his energy into getting the latter. I love his honesty. I also love his passion throughout, as he delivers his highest-pitched vocals, perfectly complementing the funky R&B instrumental.

RGM RATING

(B+)

Being this good is far from luck. Completely ignore Lucky Daye’s moniker, guys.

As good as Lucky Daye is on this album (And he is phenomenal), I want to give a standing ovation to all of the producers involved in the making of this project. The instrumentals we get in Algorithm beautifully merge past and present R&B vibes. They also merge R&B with vintage rock-n-roll here and there, making for tracks that will make you want to move your feet just as much as tap into your lover side. I love it.

Yes, in Algorithm, Lucky Daye talks about love and heartbreak, but he does it in a way that is refreshing. Though there are times on the album when he comes across as someone who would melt if he didn’t get touched by a woman, he also comes across as someone who’s striving to build a strong connection with his partner by improving as a person and romantic partner. This is how normal people should approach love.

I wasn’t familiar with your R&B game, Lucky. I knew you could sing your ass off, but I didn’t know you were this versatile. In Algorithm, I love how Lucky Daye gets lost in whatever kind of production he is handed, including R&B-rock, R&B-Blues, and R&B-pop. Additionally, I was blown away by his ability to morph into a modern-day Frank Ocean in “Think Different.” Once again, I wasn’t familiar with your game, Lucky.

On this very hot summer, cool off by listening to Lucky Daye’s smooth Algorithm.
