P.U.R.P., Rosita & Akeem Ali Speak On Side Chicks In “Jody.”

Rating: 5 out of 5.

S**t can get sticky when you’re f**king with side pieces.

When it comes to dropping satisfying hip-hop records, Mississippi artist P.U.R.P. gets the job done. What I like about him is that he is a solid singer, can knock heads off as a rapper, and consistently delivers meaningful verses. Don’t believe me? Listen to his catalog. You’ll hear everything from slow jams to kill-a-rapper tunes.

That said, P.U.R.P.’s latest single, “Jody,” might be his best.

“Jody” tells “a heartbreaking tale of a side piece discovering he’s being cheated on.” While that sounds crazy (why would a sidepiece be heartbroken about that?), I firmly believe you can fall in love with someone you’re not supposed to.

While the song’s topic is juicy as hell, even if they were saying “blah blah blah,” I would still put it on a pedestal. I absolutely love the smooth, glitchy production, P.U.R.P.’s witty, lowkey disrespectful first verse, Rosita’s intoxicating hook, and Akeem Ali’s punchline-heavy, confrontational verse. All in all, this is an enjoyable track that more than side pieces would appreciate.

Side pieces have been ruining marriages since the 1500s.
