Who had beef between Sexyy Red and Michael Jackson’s estate on their bingo card?
One of the wildest videos to hit social media this week featured Sexyy Red performing her own rendition of Michael Jackson’s classic hit “Beat It.” While she sang over the original instrumental, she flipped the lyrics into something far more explicit, rapping about parts of her body getting devoured. The lyrics were outrageous, but what really caught attention was how offbeat the performance sounded.
It appears Michael Jackson’s estate was not amused either. They released a statement saying, “We were totally unaware of this. The use of the music is unauthorized.” That suggests Sexyy Red could be stepping into risky territory if she is not careful. In a twist of irony, it almost feels like the estate told her to literally “beat it.”
Here is how I see it: Sexyy Red is known for having fun on social media, so it is unlikely she meant any real harm. I also doubt the remix will ever see an official release. Still, it makes sense that Jackson’s estate would be protective over how his music is used. Younger generations did not grow up with his catalog in real time, and first impressions matter. What happens next remains unclear, but one thing is certain: plenty of people got a laugh out of it.
