EARTHGANG & Snakehips – SNAKEGANG EP, Vol. 1

(B)

EARTHGANG and Snakehips bring out the best in one another.

When it comes to experimental hip-hop, EARTHGANG is at the top of the list. Their music is usually eclectic and boasts all kinds of vibes. In their recent collaboration album with Snakehips, the duo delivers runway, Saturday brunch in Brooklyn vibes. While the vibes and uptempo instrumentals will likely catch your attention first, it’s always cool to hear some runway-ready tracks with raps, and EARTHGANG’s raps definitely make a difference.

Favorite Songs: “GLIMMER.” & Been A Minute”

Tekashi 6ix9ine – Tekashi 6ix9ine’s Greatest Hits

(N/A)

Dropping a greatest hits album after two real albums is wild.

Before you dismiss this project, remember this: During his heyday, 6ix9ine was on fire. Don’t believe me? Take a look at the streaming numbers from this project. Sixteen out of the twenty-one tracks have over 100 million streams; that’s definitely outshining most of your favorite rappers’ catalogs. Of course, the project features hits like “GUMMO,” “BEBE,” “FEFE,” and the new “COCO.” Surprisingly, it also includes the God-awful “LOCKED UP, Pt. 2.”

Favorite tracks: “GUMMO,” FEFE” & “KEKE.”

Ransom & MadeinTYO – SMOKE & MIRRORS

(B)

Have you been paying attention to MadeinTYO lately? He’s evolved from one of those young rappers who talked gibberish on records to a boom-bap guy. TYO’s last project, TYO808, was one of the realest hip-hop releases I heard last year. Though SMOKE & MIRRORS, which features underground NJ spitter Ransom, doesn’t feature any bars from MadeinTYO, it does showcase three outstanding, elegant hip-hop beats by him. I am very impressed with the project (It goes without saying that the rapping by Ransom is excellent).
