Charlie Houston Tells an Emotional Story with “Pink Cheetah Print Slip”

Rating: 5 out of 5.

A spiteful but awesome queer breakup anthem!

Charlie Houston isn’t a name I’ve heard of, but after browsing her website and social pages, I immediately connected with her vibe, and I’m all in!

At 22 years old, just two years younger than me, Charlie Houston radiates refreshingly modern and authentic energy, beautifully showcased in her latest music video, “Pink Cheetah Print Slip.” Despite being a breakup song, it’s fast-paced and catchy—a track I can easily imagine dancing to. The lyrics are brutally honest and spiteful, narrating Houston’s experience of her ex-girlfriend leaving her for a musician in another band. She exclaims, “I hope he’s terrible on stage, and all his songs sound the same!”

The song adeptly conveys the emotions that Houston experienced during the breakup. The anger and spitefulness, at times humorous with their biting nature, blend seamlessly with the lively instrumentals, amplifying those emotions. The music video itself does an amazing job with its camera work, and the liminal room it’s mostly set in matches the song well.

I myself can’t wait to delve deeper into Houston’s discography, as she is an artist I can see myself really getting into.
