A$AP Rocky & Jessica Platt Unite For “HIGHJACK”

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

OK, this new A$AP Rocky album is really happening.

Let’s be honest: Drake’s diss of A$AP Rocky in “Family Matters” stung because there’s a grain of truth in it. For example, when Drake pointed out that people seem more hyped about Rocky’s modeling work than his music, it’s not far off the mark. Rocky hasn’t released enough standout tracks since he first hit the scene.

While A$AP Rocky’s upcoming Don’t Be Dumb album may not completely erase his past disappointments, it has the potential to leave us with a better impression. Today, the first single from the project, “Highjack,” dropped on streaming services.

Tired of them n***as sleepin’ on me, I don’t like naps
N***as f**k around and stole the flow and y’all like that?
Okay, okay, and I’m right back
A$AP right up on my gut and that’s a life tat’
Walk inside the booth, I just talk, I don’t write raps
Walk into the store, I bought the flow ’cause I’m like that
Tell her, “Give me that, give me those,” f**k a price tag

A$AP Rocky in “HIGHJACK”

Oh, A$AP Rocky is talking that s**t in “HIGHJACK.” In the track, he talks about f**king his competition’s h*es (Drake diss?), giving a damn about price tags, and doing some freaky s**t to his woman. He also mentions a bunch of s**t that he doesn’t like, including being compared to him (Drake diss?), rats, and people who ask for features.

I F**KING LOVE THIS TRACK! It blends elements that aren’t usually mixed, but the result is hella dope. I’m especially into how A$AP Rocky’s cocky tone meshes with Jessica Pratt’s spellbinding vocals and the subtly pleasant production. What a comeback!

If I’m Drake, I might be wiping sweat off my face after listening to this track.
