⭐⭐⭐⭐
Rating: 4 out of 5.YG has been shooting 100 percent from the field when it comes to making hood-romantic tracks.
Recently, I posted a list of the top 5 current rappers from Los Angeles and got a lot of backlash for two reasons: including Vince Staples (apparently, Long Beach isn’t considered LA) and ranking YG ahead of ScHoolBoy Q. While I understand why people think Q should be higher (he did drop one of the best albums of the year with BLUELIPS), don’t overlook the fire YG has been bringing these past few months.
Since the start of the year, YG has been emptying the clip with club bangers. He kicked things off with “KNOCKA,” followed up with “WEIRD,” “SHAKE,” and “STUPID.” Today, YG returned to the music scene with perhaps his best single of the year: “LOVE MAKE.”
Left stoke, left stroke, left stroke
Kiss you while I hit it missionary, that stroke
Tryna kill it like—, take your breath though
From the back, ayy, doggystyle, pet code
No next ho, forever want you in my lifeYG in “LOVE MAKE”
So, while this track is credited solely to YG, two key contributors deserve recognition. First and foremost, Mustard is behind the smooth, sensual production (you should’ve known because it has snaps). Additionally, the song heavily samples Avant’s classic R&B track “Makin’ Good Love.” Without these two elements, I’m not sure how big this track would be. That said, YG’s contributions shouldn’t be overlooked. He delivers raw, unapologetic rap verses that vividly describe what he’s down to do when he’s presented with a bad b*tch with a nice body. All in all, I can absolutely see this track doing extremely well on the radio (remember that device?).
YG had Saweetie and Kehlani. He’s the GOAT.
Quincy is the creator of Ratings Game Music. He loves writing about music, taking long walks on beaches, and spaghetti that fights him back.
