Lately, Kodak Black has been quietly delivering some standout guest verses. On Don Toliver’s last album, Hardstone Psycho, “BROTHER STONE” featuring Kodak was one of the top tracks, and similarly, one of the highlights from Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s VULTURES 2 album features Kodak.
While it remains to be seen whether Kodak Black will continue to be generous, he did decide to release a new solo track called “Hit Stick.”
“Hit Stick” boasts one of the most intense hip-hop beats of the year, blending a dramatic flair with a cold-hearted trap vibe. Kodak Black rides the beat with his signature style, slipping in and out of coherency as he delivers menacing bars about taking out his competition and catching bystanders in the crossfire. When he’s clear and focused, his punchlines hit hard, and his bar finishes are sharp. Overall, the track shows serious potential, but it falls just short of fully realizing it.
Kodak Black has the musical equivalent of a quick first step in basketball—if you’re a baller, you know exactly what I mean.
