T.I. Enlists Kirk Franklin, Young Dro & Sunday Service Choir for “Thank God”

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

The trappers and the church folks have found common ground.

Recently, Complex made a list of the 50 Best Atlanta Rappers of All Time. While I often disagree with these types of lists, I found this one quite accurate. They had André 3000 at #1, Future at #2, and T.I. at #3. I probably wouldn’t change that top 3. However, I feel that, at his peak, T.I. reached the highest point.

These days, T.I. isn’t as active musically; in fact, he’s performed more stand-up comedy shows than released new projects. However, today, he returned to the music scene with a new church-inspired hip-hop single called “Thank God.”

In “Thank God,” Young Dro and T.I. reflect on the blessings they’ve received from God. They discuss overcoming drug abuse and prison sentences while acknowledging their victories. Dro’s delivery is unfiltered and raw, while T.I. uses a worn-out flow from 2012 to convey his messages effectively.

Kirk Franklin, the legendary voice in Gospel music, delivers a powerful sermon in the track, while the Sunday Service Choir gifts us with beautiful vocals that tie everything together perfectly. I think “Thank God” is worth a listen on this demonic Friday.

Back when T.I. got in trouble every other week, I bet you God rolled his eyes whenever he received a prayer from him.
