Tory Lanez Drops “Appellate Court Freestyle,” “Tommie’s Interlude,” and “Basement”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Tory Lanez ain’t slowing down.

Tory Lanez has been consistently dropping new music from prison over the past few weeks, and honestly, I’ve been loving all of it. What stands out to me is how he’s been doubling down on his versatility—whether it’s smooth R&B vibes, hard-hitting rap bangers, or club-ready anthems, Tory is showing that he can do it all.

Today, Tory Lanez dropped a trio of fresh singles for us to dive into: “Appellate Court Freestyle,” “Tommie’s Interlude,” and “Basement.”

“Appellate Court” is one of those thought-provoking rap tracks that sticks with you. It features a smooth beat with a nice knock to remind you that only sharp raps belong on it. Tory Lanez steps up, precisely riding the beat and delivering a barrage of slick punchlines. Lyrically, Tory goes on a full-fledged “f**k you” tour, calling out his exes, record labels, blogs, and prosecutors. Interestingly, he dismisses them all with a verbal wave off, like they’re not even worth his time. Featured guest AWOL$ wraps up the track with a solid verse, offering wise advice and reflecting on his come-up.

“Tommie’s Interlude” is this week’s R&B banger. Created in 2019, the track showcases Tory Lanez at his most passionate, using smooth and seductive vocals to detail all the sexual things he plans to do with his girl. From flipping her like drug money to drinking her bath water, Tory doesn’t hold back. If you’re staying in tonight, toss this track on to heat things up quickly.

Lastly, “Basement” blends R&B and hip-hop vibes effortlessly. On the track, Tory Lanez uses his signature melodic rap style to talk about getting one of his ladies to drop it low… so low that she’s practically in the basement with the rats and old porno tapes. He also flexes about being a heartless pimp who never catches feelings. The first thought that came to mind when I heard most of the song was that it felt familiar. It’s probably because Tory has a few other tracks in his catalog that sound pretty similar.
