Rating: 3.5 out of 5.Eminem added three more tracks to his “The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)” album from earlier this year.
Oh, you thought Eminem killed Slim Shady? Well, he decided to come back for three new tracks: “Fuel (Shady Edition),” “Like My Shit,” and “Kyrie & Luka.”
I really enjoyed the first version of “Fuel,” and this new version holds up well. It features two strong verses from WESTSIDE BOOGIE and GRIP, both of whom ride the beat with ease and confidence while showcasing fiery competitiveness, hints of violence, and respect for their mentor, Eminem. As for Em, he closes the track with a solid verse, where he touches on solving Tupac and Biggie’s murder cases and drops his signature barbaric lines, even mentioning tussling with paraplegic individuals. Overall, it’s a cool track with solid performances all around.
“Like My Shit” showcases a quirky side of Eminem, where he leans into slightly corny punchlines and rebellious lyrics aimed at critics and anyone who thinks they can match his level. The standout for me is the catchy hook delivered by an unnamed guest artist, which adds a lot to the track. The dramatic, mid-tempo production also works well, creating a solid backdrop for Em’s verses, which hold up with his usual flair. Overall, it’s a track with solid elements that make it enjoyable.
“Kyrie & Luka” is driven by one of the most unusual beats I’ve heard in a while, with a peculiar ’90s vibe that reminds me of something MC Hammer might have used. It makes me wonder what DJ Premier was on when he crafted it. Over the beat, 2 Chainz drops a lengthy verse where he talks about his rise in Atlanta, his wild drunken moments, and the checks he’s getting from record labels, all while delivering clever punchlines and rebellious flows. When Eminem steps in, the beat shifts to accommodate his wacky style, allowing him to spit dark punchlines, intricate wordplay, and lyrics about his childish antics and the impact of school shootings. Overall, the track feels more like an elaborate freestyle than a polished song.
Eminem still has much more left in the tank.
