IDK Returns With “KICKIN”

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

IDK closes out the summer strong with “KICKIN.”

IDK has been one of my favorite artists for a while now. It’s not just because he reps the DMV, one of the best areas in the country, but also because his voice gives me Kanye West vibes. And let’s be real, those are solid reasons. While he’s been relatively quiet this year, IDK gave us “DENIM” featuring Joey Bada$$ in March and followed up with “TIFFANY” in June. Today, he’s back with a new solo single titled “KICKIN.”

I think the standout feature of “KICKIN” is the beat. It packs enough punch to impress even the most stoic listener while maintaining a sophisticated vibe that’s truly enjoyable. While IDK’s raps on the track aren’t necessarily my favorite, he does demonstrate his talent with some compelling verses. He varies his flow multiple times (even channeling one of Kendrick’s flows from “Euphoria”), adjusts his delivery, and maintains a cool demeanor. My main criticism is the “can’t touch this” sections, which don’t quite resonate with me. Nonetheless, the song is a fun listen.
