Khern$ Has One Helluva Night In “The Ratchet EP”

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Storytelling at its finest.

As I’m writing this, summer has just a few more days left, and that’s definitely not enough time to fit in all the wild plans you might have had. So, instead, I suggest reflecting on all the fun and craziness you’ve already experienced. One artist who’s inspired me to think this way is Khern$, a rapper from San Fernando Valley who’s also a sharp businessman. In his new project The Ratchet EP, he captures one unforgettable summer night filled with sex, money, and violence.

The project starts with “Clap,” where Khern$ talks about meeting a woman with a jaw-dropping presence. Even though she’s taken, he’s determined to win her over for the night. The track, fueled by an uptempo beat perfect for strip clubs, features a catchy hook and slick verse from Khern$, alongside a sassy feature from Khai, who plays hard to get. Together, they make a great one-two punch.

Next up is “Homegirl,” a fun, energetic track where Khern$ recounts a night with a woman and her friend, both of whom are down for a good time. This song stands out with its infectious ’90s vibe and upbeat production. Khern$ and featured guest Bandito ride the beat with animated, carefree rap styles, making it one of the most enjoyable tracks on the EP.

By the time you hit “Cheeks,” the mood shifts slightly darker as Khern$ focuses on one woman who’s caught his eye. This track has more moody production compared to the others. Khern$ oozes confidence, showing off his cool demeanor, while featured artist Wake Daze brings an exciting, high-energy verse that makes it sound like he’s ready to crash out on the dance floor.

The EP closes with “2AM in the Valley,” where Khern$ reflects on heading home while still down to hang with friends, smoke, and throw hands if needed. He also reminds listeners that he’s all about casual encounters, not love. This track is my personal favorite, thanks to its smooth flow and chill vibe, along with a catchy hook. SmoothDaWolf delivers an impressive verse, solidifying the dynamic between him and Khern$ as they prove they’re about that life.

Glad to see an artist in the valley getting recognition. Listened to some music on YT which isn’t available on Spotify. Looking forward to seeing the growth continue!
