Lil Durk Says He Had To “Turn Up A Notch”

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Lil Durk’s highly-anticipated new album is on the way.

Lil Durk has had an interesting past few months. It seemed like he was everywhere—popping up on Chicago Bears’ Hard Knocks, making other TV appearances, and occasionally active on social media—yet we haven’t seen much in terms of new music releases. When he did drop something, it felt random as hell. Whatever the case, we’re here now, and so is Durk’s latest single, “Turn Up A Notch.” Hopefully, this release gives us a glimpse of what we can expect from the Chicago rapper moving forward.

The first thing that grabbed my attention about “Turn Up A Notch” was the production. It’s hypnotic, reminiscent of the beats Roddy Ricch used to flow over in his early days. Lil Durk really shines here, delivering his signature emotional melodic raps that hit especially hard during the catchy chorus. Lyrically, Durk balances talking about his rough upbringing in the trenches, the lavish life he now leads, and his determination to elevate even higher. I f**k with this track, especially if it’s just a teaser for something bigger on the horizon.
