Mario Returns With “Space”

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

They are saying Mario has been reincarnated as Lucky Daye.

Laugh all you want, but Mario’s career has outlasted many artists, even if it’s been a bit inconsistent. It all began with his breakout hit “Just A Friend” in 2002, and since then, he’s had a mix of scattered successes and quiet moments. The Baltimore native’s latest single, “Space,” continues his journey. If you’re trying to recall his last major single, it was the strange “Main One,” a collaboration with Tyga and Lil Wayne.

In “Space,” Mario pays tribute to a woman who’s firing on all cylinders—she’s got the looks, the scent, and the energy to light up any party. What really stands out about the track is its unique style. It boasts a funky beat that evokes a retro vibe, with visions of disco balls and big-ass afros. Mario complements this backdrop with a dazzling vocal performance, perfectly matching the energetic feel. However, the track does feel like it has some empty, unfilled spaces, which creates an odd sense of imbalance. Nonetheless, this is a fun listen.

This is how you reinvent yourself, folks.
