Can Wiz Khalifa return to an unstoppable form?
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Wiz Khalifa’s Kush & Orange Juice mixtape is one of the greatest of all time. Back then, Wiz was setting trends and absolutely killing it on the mic. The music he was putting out during that era was just flat-out excellent. However, since then, I feel like Wiz hasn’t consistently lived up to the high expectations he set. With Kush & Orange Juice 2 on the way, I’m hopeful that some of that old magic will return.
“Khalifa’s Home” is the kind of track that’s meant to get you amped up. It kicks off with a hard-hitting, club-ready beat featuring some DJ scratches that really stand out. Wiz Khalifa comes through with assertive, swag-filled raps in the verses, while giving us some playful singing in the chorus, which has a bit of a “Still Fly” vibe. Lyrically, he sticks to the usual topics you’re familiar with—weed, women, and chilling. Overall, the track feels like a mixtape cut that doesn’t quite reach that next level.
When Eminem said “the new Ice Cube” in “The Way I Am,” this is what he meant.
