At a time like this, I am actually very interested in what Chance The Rapper has to say.

When thinking of rappers with a strong Democratic stance, Chance The Rapper stands out. During his prime, he openly supported Barack Obama—a natural alignment given their shared Chicago roots. Chance has also been vocal on political matters, making an impact in a space where hip-hop has only recently begun to actively engage.

Now that Donald Trump has won the 2024 election, many—including myself—were curious about what Chance The Rapper had to say, given his usual eloquence. Recently, Chance offered a glimpse of his perspective in an Instagram post. He shared images of renowned Black leaders like Malcolm X and Harriet Tubman, with the caption “To The Lost.”

Some fans praised Chance for showcasing iconic leaders and standing firmly in his beliefs, while others questioned his decision to post images featuring individuals with guns. Regardless of the reaction, it’s evident that Chance made a clear statement with his choice.

Here’s my take. Chance The Rapper is one of the few rappers who genuinely makes an impact when he speaks—especially through his music. While I appreciate seeing him post on Instagram about the election results and respect his perspective, wouldn’t it be even more powerful if he voiced his thoughts through his music? Maybe it’s only a matter of time before we get to hear that.
