Embee’s New Track “Monsters” Out Now

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

Two decades into his career, Embee releases “Monsters.”

The Swedish hip-hop DJ and producer Embee has been part of the music scene since the early ’90s. His nearly endless discography includes numerous collaborations with various vocalists and instrumentalists. His first solo project, released in 2004, won him a Swedish Grammy for Best Hip-Hop or Soul Release in 2005.

Twenty years later, Embee released his new album, Retellings, as an homage to his solo album Tellings from Solitaria. This latest release brings together various artists to realize Embee’s creative vision. Retellings was released on November 10th and includes ten tracks—among them, the song Monsters, where he collaborates with Petter Eldh, Otis Sandsjö, Fabian Kallerdahl, and Ayla. These Sweden-based artists are frequent collaborators, with Petter, Otis, and Fabian contributing to the album’s instrumentals, while Ayla adds a personal touch with her vocals on this track.

This song is immediately bass-driven, with a solid beat that sets a nice vibe from the start. Ayla’s unique vocals add a softness to the track while breathing life into it. Although “Monsters” might not make it onto my playlists, it’s definitely worth a listen.
