Rating: 3 out of 5.Lil Tjay looks to close out 2024 strong.
A few years ago, I had an interesting debate with my podcast homie. He argued that Lil Tjay had more clout than Meek Mill, and while I disagreed, thinking Meek would easily outsell Tjay at that time, I did acknowledge that their numbers would be close. Fast forward to today, and it feels like Tjay’s momentum has slowed down. It’s not that he’s doing anything wrong, but we haven’t seen that one track or project from him that truly moves the needle. The good news is, as a musician, you can keep swinging for the fences until one hits. Today, Tjay returned to the scene with a new single, “Let It Go Baby.” Maybe this is the one that finally knocks it out of the park.
In “Let It Go,” Lil Tjay reflects on the challenges he’s faced over the years, the expensive lifestyle he’s come to enjoy, and his journey of rising above the streets. He also makes it clear that he’s staying vigilant, keeping his head on a swivel to prevent anyone who wishes him harm from getting too close.
If you’re a true Lil Tjay fan, this track will likely resonate with you. For first-time listeners, though, it might not leave the strongest impression. Personally, I appreciate the introspective bars he delivers and the raw emotions he conveys through his melancholic rap vocals. However, his performance feels a bit uninspired at times, almost as if he’s just going through the motions. That said, it’s still a decent listen overall.
