The Lox Return With “Isley Money”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

The Lox are the last ones standing from the Bad Boy Records era.

I’m about to age myself here, but whatever, let’s roll with it. Back when Bad Boy Records was at its peak, I genuinely thought The Lox wouldn’t have the longevity of their labelmates. Don’t get me wrong—they’ve always been incredible rappers—but they didn’t have the flashiness of Mase or Diddy, and they weren’t as monumental as Biggie. Fast forward to 2024, and it feels like The Lox are the last ones standing. Proving their staying power once again, they’ve returned with a brand-new single, “Isley Money.”

In “Isley Money,” Styles P, Jadakiss, and Sheek Louch delve into their past lives in the trap, driven by their relentless pursuit of money. The track also reflects on their rise to success, recounting pivotal moments when they shifted their focus to music. Alongside these introspections, they critique the new generation’s misguided hustling tactics while asserting that their passion and hunger remain as strong as ever.

As expected, the chemistry between the three rappers in “Isley Money” is flawless—worthy of a chef’s kiss. Their synergy is undeniable as they tackle the subject matter with precision, employing gritty and animated rap styles that perfectly complement the sly, laid-back production. The real cherry on top, though, is the soulful Ronald Isley vocals subtly woven into the background, adding an extra layer of depth and class to the track.
