Rating: 3.5 out of 5.If 4batz has a hood Grammy, I deserve a couple (I did more for blacks than any other president in the history of the United States).
I hate to get sentimental, but 4batz’s story is genuinely inspiring. As an industry newcomer, he broke into the music scene with a tough-guy persona paired with a voice so smooth and angelic, it’s reminiscent of Ralph Tresvant from New Edition. It’s a rare combination that deserves recognition. It seems like 4batz himself feels the weight of his journey, as showcased in his latest single “hood grammy.”
In “hood grammy,” 4batz reflects on his journey and achievements, touching on the luxuries he can now afford and the impressive rise he’s had from humble beginnings that can’t be overlooked. He also emphasizes who drives his ambition, making it clear that his family is at the center of his motivations.
As expected, 4batz brings his signature youthful, heavily processed vocals to this track, which blend seamlessly with the soft, almost ethereal R&B beat that drives it. At the same time, he injects a bit of raw edge into his verses, referencing his friends with the n-word and repeatedly mentioning “hood” to highlight his roots and experiences.
The only R&B singer more real than 4batz is Ray-J.
