Delacey Reimagines Third Eye Blind’s “Losing A Whole Year”

Rating: 5 out of 5.

A captivating cover of the rock band’s iconic 90s tune.

Los Angeles-based artist and songwriter Delacey is known for her deeply personal and honest approach to music. In her own words, “It’s super vulnerable putting out music – especially the way I’m constantly doing it, which is being way too honest all the time.” Delacey has an impressive track record, having contributed songwriting to artists like Halsey, Dove Cameron, and Demi Lovato, and even working on the soundtrack for DreamWorks’ animated film The Wild Robot.

Her latest release is a cover of Third Eye Blind’s “Losing A Whole Year,” featured in a charity compilation aimed at raising awareness for gun violence prevention. Delacey shared on Instagram, “I was asked to be a part of a beautiful cause,” and emphasized her connection to the song by saying, “I had to go with a song off an album that shaped me greatly.” She added, “We’re very proud of this recording and what we stand for with this album. Thank you everyone involved and thank you for listening!”

Delacey’s rendition of “Losing A Whole Year” offers a unique twist on the Third Eye Blind classic, merging soft, melodic instrumental moments with a rich, moody ambiance that captivates the listener. Her slowed-down version of the song highlights haunting vocals that deliver the original lyrics—such as “Rich daddy left you with a parachute, Your voice sounds like money and your face is cute” and “Now you wanna try a life of sin, You wanna be down with the down and in”—with a touch of melancholy and introspective nostalgia. This thoughtful cover reimagines the ’90s rock hit, imbuing it with a fresh, emotional depth.

Delacey’s cover stands as a testament to her ability to reinterpret songs with sincerity and authenticity, adding a layer of vulnerability that resonates deeply. It’s worth giving this version a listen for those who appreciate unique takes on well-loved songs.
