Tory Lanez Returns With “Honest” & “Losing Friends”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Tory Lanez has had a really good Friday.

It’s surprising how much support Tory Lanez still has, considering the serious accusations against him. There are likely two reasons for this: Megan Thee Stallion’s wishy-washy presence and Tory’s relentless work ethic. The Canada native has dropped an impressive number of singles this year alone, and before fans could even fully digest those, he followed up with two more: “Honest” and “Losing Friends.”

In “Honest,” Tory Lanez raps about hooking up with a girl he has no interest in committing to, even though they’re doing relationship-like things. The track stands out with a bold, carefree chorus that grabs attention, while the laidback flow Tory uses in his verses complements the vibe. The beat mirrors the complexity of the situation, blending hard-hitting and gentle elements to reflect the tension and contradictions in the relationship.

In “Losing Friends,” Tory Lanez opens up about the friends he’s lost—some due to death, others because of the money and fame he’s gained. The song blends a colorful, energetic vibe with an emotive hook, while Tory’s delivery in his verses at times sounds raw, even as if he’s crying on the mic. The contrast between the upbeat feel and the emotional depth makes this track both real and fun, which is an interesting mix.
