Tyler, The Creator Releases “That Guy (Hey Now Remix)”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Is this the closest thing we will get to a Tyler, The Creator and Kendrick Lamar collaboration?

Los Angeles has truly shined this year. TDE led the charge, with Kendrick Lamar delivering one of the year’s most acclaimed albums and the undeniable song of the year. SchoolBoy Q also made a significant impact with Bluelips, which stirred up major waves. However, one name you shouldn’t overlook is Tyler, The Creator. He delivered an Album of the Year contender with CHROMAKOPIA, further cementing his artistic prowess. To close out the year on a high note, Tyler surprised fans with his take on Kendrick Lamar’s “Hey Now,” offering his unique spin on the track.

Tyler, The Creator uses this track as the perfect platform to flex his status and success. He boasts about his wealth, the luxury cars he drives, and jewelry with more “boogers” than Roscoe from Martin, all while making it clear he doesn’t mess with too many people (a sentiment I can relate to). Set against a hyphy-inspired beat that Bay Area fans will appreciate, Tyler adopts a slightly cocky, slightly sinister tone, delivering his bars like a glamorous villain. While the track doesn’t completely win me over, it serves as a fun and entertaining loosie.

I can’t help but wonder if Tyler, The Creator gets into the Christmas spirit. After all, he’s mentioned before that he doesn’t believe in “Jebus.”
