Billie Eilish, SZA and Hayley Williams Endorse Doechii’s Rising Stardom

Doechii has officially gotten the attention of famous white people.

Doechii’s star continues to rise, cementing her status as one of the most exciting artists of the moment. Despite having been on the scene for a few years, it’s now undeniable that the Florida rapper has both the “now” and the “next.” Every day, accolades pour in from fans and industry heavyweights alike, and for good reason—she’s been on an impressive streak lately.

Her recent release, Alligator Bites Never Heal, has been hailed as the album of the year by many, showcasing her boundless creativity and genre-defying talent. Her music videos are equally captivating, pushing boundaries and solidifying her artistic vision. Beyond her projects, she’s been making all the right moves, appearing in influential spaces and collaborating with other industry giants.

In just the past few days, Doechii received public praise from three major names: Billie Eilish, SZA, and Hayley Williams. Billie took to Instagram, writing, “doechii is so fire omg,” while SZA declared on X, “yea doechii is my favorite artist rn hands down. F**k the genre.” Meanwhile, Hayley Williams, celebrated for her work with Paramore and her close ties with Taylor Swift, crowned Doechii as her favorite artist right now.

I have mixed feelings about these reactions. On the one hand, I love seeing Doechii get her flowers—she’s as authentic and raw as they come, and her talent deserves all the recognition. But on the other hand, it’s frustrating to see her acknowledgment gain traction only after big names co-sign her. As someone who’s been championing her as “hotter than fish grease” from the jump, it almost feels like there’s some industry maneuvering at play, making her rise seem less organic than it truly is.

That said, recognition is recognition. Flowers are flowers, and I’m hopeful that Doechii continues to earn her praise on the strength of her incredible work.

i think it’s the ‘tiny desk’ that really caught the attention of people outside of the usual hip hop fans, whatever their ethnicity. those 10 women locked in is undeniable. i know billie’s been a hip hop fan since she started out and she toured with several black artists in her early days. it’s probably why she had a blaccent back then. when you spend weeks and months in green rooms with black people, it rubs off. hayley’s just chill like that. sza needs no explanation. peace.

Yeah, I absolutely loved her Tiny Desk performance. My opening line was meant to be a bit sarcastic and humorous (I don’t think it’s a race thing at all). I do agree that Billie is tapped into hip-hop culture, and SZA, as her labelmate, should be supporting her. I just can’t stand the timing of it all. Alligator Bites Never Heal dropped months ago, so it’s frustrating that people are only now realizing how great she is. That said, I’m genuinely happy for Doechii and the recognition she’s finally getting.

haha, i got it right away. doechii’s team is making all the right moves and it’s paying off. and doechii seems up to the task. my only worry, and this is for all artists who gain a lot of attention, is that the internet can brutally turn on them over some bs, made-up ish. one misconstrued comment can undo a lot of progress.

Haha I’m glad! I agree with that, Doechii’s team is shooting nearly perfect from the field. I just hope we don’t flood her with unrealistic expectations honestly.
