Rating: 4.5 out of 5.There’s some bad singing and some good rapping on this track.
If you’re not familiar with The Colleagues, it’s time to change that. This talented production team is known for crafting high-quality R&B and hip-hop beats. Over the years, they’ve collaborated with heavyweights like 2 Chainz, Nipsey Hussle, T-Pain, Gucci Mane, and more. Yesterday, The Colleagues released a new track called “My Everything.” It features Freddie Gibbs and Paul Wall.
More Heat: Freddie Gibbs – You Only Die 1nce (Album Review)
“My Everything” is built on an elegant, soothing beat that feels like a remedy for heartburn and a soundtrack for clear thinking. Freddie Gibbs kicks things off with an aggressive verse, tackling themes like racial tension, his candy-painted cars, and his history with drug use. Surprisingly, he also attempts a Mary J. Blige-inspired singing segment that, unfortunately, misses the mark entirely.
Paul Wall follows up with a sly and polished verse, highlighting his signature topics: candy-painted cars (because what’s a Paul Wall verse without that?) and the relentless grind he’s put into the rap game. Though the pairing of these two artists seems unusual, their collaboration unexpectedly works.
