Joveth’s “Bubblegum” is Thoughtful Yet Fu

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

The newest tune is familiar, fresh, and sticks to me like bubblegum!

When I first heard Joveth’s new single, “Bubblegum,” my initial thought was how nostalgic it sounded. Let me elaborate on that in a moment. Joveth, a talented musician from the Philippines, is gaining popularity with each new album. He’s best known for his EP Lonely Boy and his spectacular live performances. His unique blend of genres and heartfelt lyrics has earned him a dedicated fanbase.

Now, back to “Bubblegum.” What makes it feel nostalgic to me is its unique contrast—despite being a deeply introspective and thoughtful song about heartbreak, the instrumentals are bouncy and fun. With hints of grunge, the song feels like it could have fit perfectly in the mid-1990s or late 1980s.

The combination of upbeat, danceable instrumentals and somber, reflective lyrics creates a one-of-a-kind listening experience that I can’t get enough of. When I saw the advertisement for the song on Instagram, Joveth described it as synthpop, which makes perfect sense. The nostalgic vibe it evokes explains why it feels so familiar, even though I didn’t grow up in the ’90s.

All in all, I really enjoy what I’m hearing. I’m excited to dive deeper into Joveth’s music and explore more of his nostalgic beats soon!
