Mark Phillips believes Drake struggles to handle loss effectively.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock (which might be a good idea given today’s housing market), you’ve probably heard about Drake’s lawsuit against UMG. In it, the Toronto rapper alleges that the label artificially inflated Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” numbers in an attempt to devalue him during negotiations. In his lawsuit, he claims that the label encouraged streamers (or possibly paid) to boost the track’s significance. One of the streamers he named is the popular Mark Phillips, who recently responded.
During a livestream, Mark read the parts of the lawsuit that mentioned him and reiterated that, contrary to popular belief, he isn’t the one being sued by Drake. He also urged Drake to accept his loss to Kendrick Lamar.
First and foremost, I had no clue Mark Phillips was this involved in the hip-hop world. I’m so used to seeing him spoofing sports. Secondly, I think Mark is absolutely right with his take. We all know Drake is a fantastic artist, and his lawsuit might even be logical, but the more he continues to highlight the worst moment of his career—especially with a lawsuit giving it more attention—the more the loss lingers. Drake should definitely let the whole ordeal go… Unless he thinks he can win 1 billion dollars from it.
Mark Phillips took the high road, and I respect that.
