Bas, Ab-Soul, and The Hics Deliver Dreamy Depth on “Norbit”

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Ab-Soul blacks out in this track.

There are a lot of highly anticipated albums dropping in the coming months, but one project I’m especially excited for is melanchronica, the upcoming collaboration between Bas and The Hics. As a longtime Bas fan, I love when he taps into his experimental side—and The Hics seem to bring that out of him every time.

We already got a strong preview with the single “Everyday Ppl,” but the latest release, “Norbit” featuring Ab-Soul, might take the anticipation to another level.

“Norbit” is built on a soothing, dreamy instrumental—anchored by ethereal vocals from The Hics’ lead singer—that creates the perfect space for lyrical depth. Unsurprisingly, both Bas and Ab-Soul deliver.

Bas comes through with a textured verse about grinding hard, surrounding himself with real support, and crafting the life he wants. His flow is tricky and dynamic, laced with clever punchlines and subtle energy. Then Ab-Soul steps in and blacks out—delivering a razor-sharp verse aimed at doubters and background haters, reminding everyone why he’s one of the most respected lyricists in the game.

The beauty of “Norbit” lies in its contrast: smooth production meets rugged bars, creating a layered listen that balances tranquility and intensity. It’s a bold, cohesive track that suggests melanchronica is going to be something truly special.
