Detroit rap icon Obie Trice proves he’s still lyrically fierce with his energetic new single “TBH.”
Detroit veteran Obie Trice is back in the spotlight with his new single “TBH,” proving that time away hasn’t dulled his sharp wordplay. For many fans, Trice’s name first rang out when Eminem famously spelled it in the intro of “Without Me,” launching him into early-2000s hip-hop fame.
Obie quickly made his mark with standout singles like “The Setup” featuring Nate Dogg from his 2003 debut Cheers and “Snitch” off 2006’s Second Rounds On Me. True to his drinking-themed album titles, his most recent full-length project was 2019’s The Fifth, after which he kept a relatively low profile.
“TBH” signals a fiery return. The track rides on exhilarating, punchy production reminiscent of a boxer’s relentless sparring session. Obie attacks the beat with a tight, concise flow, spitting bars about readiness for war, fierce competitiveness, and continued growth as an artist. Despite a slightly huskier delivery, his lyrical precision remains intact.
With “TBH,” Obie Trice reminds listeners why he earned his place in Detroit’s storied rap lineage. It’s a confident, hard-hitting single that shows his skills remain razor-sharp and his hunger for the mic is as strong as ever.
