Brent Faiyaz Channels Smooth Energy on Sultry New Single “have to.”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I’m calling off work when Brent Faiyaz drops “ICON.”

There are two reasons I f**k with Brent Faiyaz. For one, no one is making R&B music like him. And secondly, he’s from the DMV — so, b*tch, I’m going to root for him. That said, I’m patiently waiting for his upcoming album ICON, which was supposed to drop a few weeks ago, but didn’t (Did he scam us like those NBA players?).

To make sure he didn’t leave us hanging too long, he decided to bless us with a new single called “have to.”

I hate to sound blasphemous, but Brent Faiyaz enters 4batz territory on “have to.,” dipping into smooth, old-school R&B vibes (he even alters his voice significantly just like batzsy). Lyrically, he’s in full Captain Save-A-Chick mode, admitting that he’s so deeply in love with his girl that he’s ready to give her a max extension. Overall, this track is the kind of s**t that sets the mood on a cold December night with someone you probably want to have sexual relations with.

Brent Faiyaz remains one of the coldest hopeless romantics in the game.
