Az Chike Drops a Bouncy West Coast Heater With “Hit A Nerve”

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

It probably doesn’t take much for Az Chike to slap someone.

It feels like only a matter of time before Az Chike fully blows up (Kaboom). He was electric on “peekaboo” with Kendrick Lamar, and ever since, he’s been stacking standout features and dropping consistently strong singles.

His new album N.R.F.T.W. (No Rest For The Wicked) is on the way, and if I had to guess, that’s when a whole new wave of respect is going to land on his name. But until then, he just blessed us with a new single called “Hit A Nerve.”

“Hit A Nerve” runs on one of those unmistakable Cali, bouncy, slightly supernatural beats — the kind that’ll have people twisting their fingers in ways regular humans probably shouldn’t attempt. Over that backdrop, Az Chike turns up the animation, talking his talk: confirming he’s one of the realest, a certified playa, and stacking more paper than the folks handling certain classified files (Let me sip this tea). It’s an acquired-taste track, but one with slick, unapologetic flows that make it hit exactly how it should.
