21 Savage’s “WHAT HAPPENED TO THE STREETS?” Set to Debut at #7 on Billboard 200

This marks one of the lowest first-week sales of 21 Savage’s career.

21 Savage‘s latest project, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE STREETS?, is aiming for a #7 debut on the Billboard 200 with 53,000 units sold in its first week. While this is lower than his previous album, American Dream, which debuted at 133,000 units, it still marks one of the biggest hip-hop debuts in recent weeks.

The album features a strong lineup of collaborators, including Drake, Lil Baby, Latto, Metro Boomin, and G Herbo. Fans are gravitating toward “MR RECOUP” with Drake, currently the project’s most-streamed track, though “GANG OVER EVERYTHING” stands out as our personal favorite. Musically, the project leans on a trap-driven sound, blending haunting, dramatic production with 21 Savage’s unapologetic bars about flexing, taking revenge on enemies, and navigating the trials of rising from the streets.

Does this signal trouble for 21 Savage? Not at all. However, the project does highlight a bigger trend in hip-hop: audiences are no longer satisfied with lackluster efforts. While this album isn’t bad by any means, it doesn’t break new ground or offer the kind of innovation listeners crave.

At this point, fans are hungry for fresh ideas and unique sounds. 21 Savage has proven he can deliver hits, but the challenge now is to push beyond familiar territory and give listeners something truly special.
