Doechii & SZA Deliver a Statement Record With “girl, get up.”

Rating: 5 out of 5.

So, it looks like Doechii WAS kicking arse and taking names.

I genuinely don’t understand the people who call Doechii overrated. She’s a strong singer, a legitimately sharp rapper, and — most importantly — she has that hard-to-define “it” factor that you either have or don’t. What makes her rise even more impressive is that she’s pulled all of this off without even releasing her full debut studio album yet. That alone says a lot. Now, it looks like that debut might be closer than expected, because she just randomly dropped a new single titled “girl, get up.” featuring SZA.

The production immediately grabs attention by borrowing the rhythm and bounce of Birdman and Clipse’s classic “What Happened to That Boy,” flipping it into something sleeker and more elegant. It feels familiar but reimagined, carrying a quirky confidence that fits Doechii and SZA’s personalities perfectly.

SZA handles the chorus, and she absolutely floats, singing her heart out with the kind of emotional ease she’s known for. Her presence adds warmth and polish, grounding the song while elevating its replay value.

Doechii, meanwhile, delivers sly, fiery bars that directly address industry-plant accusations and doubts about her rise. She raps like someone who knows exactly how hard she’s worked and refuses to let anyone rewrite that story. Overall, “girl, get up.” feels like a confident reminder to put respect on her name — and honestly, it’s hard to argue with her.
