Today marks the anniversary of several random events that shaped hip-hop, pop, and R&B history.
1. January 2, 1993: Bryson Tiller Was Born

You really had to be there when Bryson Tiller dropped T R A P S O U L. At the time, it felt like the culture was looking for a reliable “backup QB” to Drake, and while plenty of artists tried to fill that lane, Bryson was the one who actually stuck. Right as binge-listening started becoming the norm, he came through with “Exchange” and “Don’t,” two records that completely took over and defined an era.
Since then, Bryson has quietly built a multiplatinum career, stacking memorable albums and timeless singles along the way. His talent is undeniable — honestly, he’s as gifted as just about anyone the hip-hop and R&B space has ever produced.
2. January 2, 2023: Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy” Is The Best-Selling UK Single Of 2006

Gnarls Barkley — who I still can’t confirm was actually named after Charles Barkley — shocked the world by dropping what might be one of the most unlikely massive hits ever with “Crazy.” The song was insanely catchy, genuinely fun, and surprisingly honest in its emotions, which made it connect in a way few records ever do. That connection translated into real dominance, especially overseas.
“Crazy” went on to become the biggest-selling single in the UK in 2006, moving over 700,000 copies. Think about that for a second: CeeLo Green, an artist from Atlanta known more for soul, funk, and left-field creativity than pop stardom, managed to completely take over the UK charts. That’s not normal — that’s lightning in a bottle.
3. January 2, 2022: Antonio Brown (AB) Released “Pit Not The Palace“
Following his viral walk-off during the Buccaneers vs. Jets game, Antonio Brown released the song “Pit Not The Palace,” using the track to frame his side of the bizarre moment. Built around a dramatic, high-energy beat, the song features a catchy hook and lyrics centered on resilience, chaos, and rising above adversity. Despite its short runtime, the track made history: It was the first by a rapper with CTE (I’m sure Soulja Boy never achieved this).
