Kep.Lockhart Returns With “TIMU” & “Hear Me Out”

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

The rising R&B artist channels heartbreak and frustration into two focused tracks.

When it comes to R&B right now, there honestly aren’t many artists doing it better than Kep.Lockhart. Beyond having a strong, expressive voice, what truly separates him is his beat selection, always unique and clean, and his willingness to explore emotional territory that avoids cliché. Recently, Kep dropped a two-track EP, anchored by “TIMU” and “Hear Me Out,” and together they feel like two sides of the same heartbreak.

On “Hear Me Out,” Kep puts his heart fully on the line. He comes across as unapologetic about the reckless behavior that defined their relationship, while still promising that he could be a better lover if given another chance. The passion and urgency in his delivery stand out immediately, especially as his vocals layer beautifully over bass-heavy, mid-tempo production that feels both polished and emotionally charged.

Meanwhile, “TIMU” captures the aftermath. Here, Kep reflects on the devastation of watching someone he thought he’d be with forever end up with someone else. The lyrics tap into conflicted thoughts and quiet frustration, brought to life by a simple but hypnotic chorus and nimble, urgent vocals. The production stays pure and focused, carrying a steady knock and tempo that lets the emotion breathe.

Together, “Hear Me Out” and “TIMU” form a concise but powerful emotional arc, regret, hope, and heartbreak distilled into two beautifully crafted R&B records. Kep.Lockhart doesn’t overdo it; he just tells the truth, and that’s what makes these songs hit.
