Dax Opens Up on Addiction and Faith in “God, Can You Hear Me?”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Dax and Emmanuel Acho gotta be cousins.

Do you know what makes me laugh? Knowing that in his prime, Dax could outrap just about anyone. He is that skilled, to me. However, over the past couple of years, he has shifted gears and now leans into more heartfelt music with a bluesy, country-tinged edge. There has to be something deeply gratifying for him in making this kind of music.

That said, he recently dropped a brand new single called “God, Can You Hear Me?” and it might just have you reaching for a box of tissues.

In “God, Can You Hear Me?”, Dax delivers a desperate prayer centered around addiction, depression, identity, faith, and the search for God’s mercy, purpose, healing, and hope amid pain. The track is built on a stripped-down instrumental led by chilling piano notes, giving it a cold, intimate atmosphere. What we get from Dax is a soul-clenching vocal performance on the chorus, while he also taps into his relentless rap bag to elevate the emotional intensity when needed. Whether you’re struggling with something or not, this track is bound to hit you.

Aw s**t, who’s cutting onions in the trap again?
