Russ has officially cemented his place in music history.
The rapper is now the second highest certified independent rapper in RIAA history, a milestone that speaks not just to numbers, but to vision, ownership, and consistency.
And yes — we all know how I feel about Russ.
He’s easily on the upside of my top 5 favorite rappers, and this achievement feels especially well-earned. Russ didn’t take the traditional route. He didn’t rely on a major label machine. Instead, he built his career brick by brick, releasing music independently, owning his masters, and proving — loudly — that artists don’t have to sacrifice control to be successful.
What makes this moment hit harder is the movement behind it. Russ has spent years openly educating artists about independence, publishing, and self-worth in an industry that often benefits from creatives not knowing their value. He didn’t just talk about it — he lived it, and now the certifications are catching up to the impact.
In a time where “independent” is often used as a buzzword, Russ represents what it actually looks like when independence is done right: longevity, financial success, and creative freedom.
If anyone deserves recognition for changing the narrative around what an independent artist can be, it’s him.
