Cabra & Mz Blur Genres on “Cruel Games”

Rating: 4 out of 5.

UK duo Cabra and Mz balance melody, rap, and emotion with ease in “Cruel Games.”

Cabra and Mz are two UK artists who truly understand the art of genre-bending. Depending on the mood or message, they can slide effortlessly between hip-hop and R&B, often blending the two so naturally it feels instinctive. Their latest collaboration, “Cruel Games,” puts that versatility front and center.

On “Cruel Games,” the duo explores the frustration of trying to stay aligned with someone you care about, even when priorities don’t match, and emotions end up in uncomfortable territory. It’s a relatable push-and-pull, handled with restraint rather than dramatics. The production plays a big role here: gentle, Afrobeats-leaning, and just punchy enough to keep things moving without breaking the mood.

Cabra sets the tone early with a melodic hook that creates a calm, late-night atmosphere. But what really stands out is how he flips the switch into an assertive, tightly delivered rap verse that reinforces the song’s emotional tension. Mz complements the track smoothly, keeping the balance intact and letting the song breathe.

Something tells me Cabra and Mz enjoy playing these cruel games with their respective partners. I know the deal.
