Wes Couer Revives Old-School R&B Magic on “Love Like Mine”

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Wes Couer taps into vintage R&B energy with a smooth, heartfelt single that feels both nostalgic and fresh.

I’m convinced Wes Couer stepped straight out of a ’90s studio session and landed in today’s streaming era. He carries that rare old-school R&B and pop blend that feels almost extinct in the current landscape, and honestly, it’s a sound I would not mind hearing a lot more of. His latest single, “Love Like Mine,” makes that even clearer.

The production grabbed me instantly. It carries a strong Neptunes-inspired bounce, with sharp, spacey synths that feel like sonic comets flying past your ears, layered over warm electric piano chords and a slick, rubbery bassline that glides effortlessly.

Vocally, Wes leans into a Ralph Tresvant-style performance, full of youthful passion and emotional sincerity. You can practically feel his stage presence through the speakers as he delivers a heartfelt confession about wanting to offer deep, unconditional love while struggling to fully articulate emotions that feel bigger than words.

In the end, it’s the kind of track that has you vibing heavy, and maybe even thinking about reconnecting with that high school crush who still crosses your mind from time to time.
