Ray Vaughn and AZ Chike Bring Pure Cali Energy on “Hit and Run”

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Ray Vaughn and AZ Chike channel pure West Coast energy with the bouncy and catchy “Hit and Run.”

Ray Vaughn and AZ Chike might be the most California-sounding rappers in the game right now. Yes, even more than Snoop at times. Part of what makes that exciting is that both are 30 and under, giving the West Coast a fresh wave of representation. Even better, they are sharp enough to link up and create something like “Hit and Run.”

“Hit and Run” rides on one of those bouncy, slightly sinister Cali beats that make you want to twist your fingers in every direction and talk like Tyler during that one altercation he had in New York, where he almost put the beats on someone. Over it, Ray Vaughn and AZ Chike sound so locked in that they almost blend together, at least until Ray turns things up toward the end of his verse.

Lyrically, they present themselves as cold-hearted playas who do not lose sleep over a woman, delivering their lines with an effortlessly unbothered tone. The chemistry feels natural, the chorus is undeniably catchy, and the overall vibe is both funny and slick. It is the kind of track that feels cooler than a surprise 60 percent profit boost on PrizePicks.
