Gordo Says Drake’s 2024 Rap Beef “Woke Up a Beast” Ahead of “ICEMAN”

Apparently, the fastest way to motivate Drake is a rap industry pile-on.

The 2024 rap wars may have slowed down, but the conversation around them is still very much alive.

During a recent discussion, Drake collaborator Gordo shared his thoughts on the chaotic period when Drake found himself in a 20 v 1 situation. According to the producer, the drama ultimately lit a fire under the Toronto superstar.

“They just woke up a f*cking beast that they haven’t seen in a long time,” Gordo said when reflecting on the fallout.

The beef in question saw Drake trading blows with Kendrick Lamar while also facing criticism and shots from several other artists across the industry. Figures like Rick Ross, A$AP Rocky, and Future all joined the conversation in different ways, turning the situation into one of the most chaotic rap feuds in recent memory.

Gordo also expressed disappointment about the amount of misinformation that circulated during the conflict.

He claimed there were numerous lies being thrown around during the back-and-forth, something he felt overshadowed the music and the competitive spirit that hip-hop beefs are traditionally known for.

Despite the turbulence, Drake appears focused on the future.

The rapper is currently preparing to release his upcoming project ICEMAN. The rollout began strongly when he dropped “WHAT DID I MISS?” and launched several ICEMAN episodes that quickly generated online buzz.

However, that was almost a year ago, and the momentum has since slowed. Follow-up singles like “WHICH ONE” didn’t land with the same impact, leaving us wondering when the next major moment from the rollout might arrive.

Drake himself has hinted that the new chapter of his career is deeply personal.

“This comeback is personal, it’s an apology to myself,” he wrote on Instagram.

If there’s someone in the hip-hop world you don’t want to count out, it’s definitely Drake. Let’s see if he really puts belt to ass these next couple of months.
