Hearing a JPEGMAFIA album during these times might finally trigger Armageddon.
JPEGMAFIA has officially announced his new album EXPERIMENTAL RAP, set to release on May 21. If that title sounds aggressive as hell, it should. This is an artist who has spent years twisting hip-hop into strange, loud, and brilliant shapes, so naming a project EXPERIMENTAL RAP feels less like branding and more like a warning shot.
Peggy also made it clear why he chose the name, taking aim at other artists in his lane. According to comments shared via PigsAndPlans, he said, “Other people in this genre, they want to pretend and try to be cool and be like, ‘I don’t want to be experimental rap. I want to be something else. I want to f**king rap like Lucki.’” He followed that by saying, “I’m not having a midlife crisis, musically, so I don’t really need to do that.”
The timing is interesting. JPEGMAFIA has been orbiting headlines lately. He reportedly had involvement with BTS and their ARRIANG project, while fans also watched a brief public rift with longtime collaborator Danny Brown. Chaos tends to follow Peggy around like ad-libs in the back of the mix.
His last solo album, I Lay Down My Life To You, dropped in 2024 and delivered what listeners expected: sharp production, wild risks, controversial bars, and shots aimed at Drake. It was messy, bold, and impossible to ignore.
Now comes EXPERIMENTAL RAP. The joke, of course, is that JPEGMAFIA already makes experimental rap. Calling the album that suggests he plans to drive even farther off-road. With Peggy, genius and disaster often carpool together.
