Rick Ross vs. French Montana Verzuz Set for May 7

This kind of feels like the Drake bowl.

It looks like we are getting a pretty solid Verzuz battle on May 7: Rick Ross vs. French Montana.

On paper, the matchup makes sense. These two have moved in similar circles for years and seem to have genuine respect for each other. They have collaborated, shared industry ties, and even appeared close enough that Rick Ross decided to get into a beef with Drake because of French. But once the music starts playing, friendships usually take a backseat to ego. You might get some disrespect at some point during the performance.

When you break down the records, there are plenty of hits in the room. Rick Ross enters with heavyweight records like “Hustlin,” “Stay Schemin” featuring French Montana and Drake, and “Aston Martin Music” featuring Drake.

French Montana has real ammo too. “Unforgettable” with Swae Lee is the biggest commercial smash either artist may play. Add in “Shot Caller,” “No Shopping” with Drake, and you have some s**t.

Both artists will likely need remixes and guest-assisted records to maximize rounds. Songs like FERG’s “Work” and appearances on records such as Drake’s “Money in the Grave” could matter.

Would I have preferred Ross against someone closer to his historical weight class? Probably. But this still has all the ingredients of an entertaining battle.
