Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” Eyes Billboard 200 Return After ‘Michael’ Movie Surge

I’m glad the YNs are finally getting a chance to appreciate Michael Jackson.

Michael Jackson’s Thriller, which is firmly in the conversation for the greatest album ever made, is now projected to re-enter the Billboard 200 at No. 7 with 43,000 units this week following the buzz around the MICAHEL film (via HITSDD). That would mark its highest chart position since 2022.

Across platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, Michael’s numbers are climbing again. A new generation is discovering him, while longtime fans are spinning classics that never really left rotation. Even the overrated “Scream” with Janet Jackson is catching renewed attention (Just kidding, I love that song).

And let’s be real, most people have heard at least half of Thriller, whether they realize it or not. The album packs iconic records like “Billie Jean,” “Thriller,” and “Beat It,” alongside deeper cuts such as “P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing),” “Human Nature,” and “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’.”

Released in 1982, Thriller reshaped pop music, elevated music videos into cinematic events, and helped define global celebrity culture. It remains the best-selling album of all time, with over 70 million copies sold worldwide.

The amount of house money Michael Jackson’s estate is making is astonishing.
