And just like that, Katy Perry and Chief Keef have ended racism.
Every now and then, a collaboration drops that makes you stare at your screen for a solid minute trying to process it. Katy Perry and Chief Keef joining forces on “Legendary Lovers (Save Me)” is one of those moments.
The track reworks Katy Perry’s dreamy 2013 PRISM cut, which already carried this hypnotic, after-hours club atmosphere powered by glossy synths and airy vocals. Katy still sounds strong here, gliding through the instrumental with pizazz.
Chief Keef enters the track with an entirely different mission.
Instead of matching the dreamy tone, he throws in messy adlibs, hood-romantic lyrics, extremely basic flows, awkward punchlines, and enough randomness to make the remix feel completely disconnected from the original song. By the time he closes things out with a “Yabba Dabba Doo,” any remaining structure completely disappears.
I’d be lying if I said he fit the song, and I’d also be lying if I called the remix good. But somehow, this bizarre musical crossover officially exists, and now we’re all forced to live in that reality.
