Polo G Shows Growth and Vulnerability on “Weight On My Shoulders”

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

I’m rooting for Polo G.

The road back to the top isn’t always easy, but Polo G seems determined to make the climb. His newest single, “Weight On My Shoulders,” finds him leaning into the introspective style that made fans connect with him in the first place while also experimenting with a different sonic approach.

Lyrically, the song covers familiar territory. Polo reflects on street life, violence, personal struggles, and his continued battle to become a better version of himself. Given that he’s now one year sober, some of the themes hit a little harder than they might have in the past.

Musically, however, this isn’t your typical Polo G track.

The production is largely drumless and avoids the explosive moments listeners might expect. Instead, it relies on dramatic melodies and emotional instrumentation to carry the record forward. As a matter of fact, it almost sounds like Polo recorded the track in a flower garden.

His performance is exactly what fans have come to expect. He sounds vulnerable, reflective, and melodic, but he also sprinkles in moments of aggression that prevent the track from becoming too soft.

“Weight On My Shoulders” may not be a game-changing release, but it’s an interesting reminder that Polo G is still willing to take creative chances.
