Finneas admits Rihanna is his dream collaboration, though he’s too shy to reach out.
Finneas has worked with some of the biggest names in music, but there’s still one artist sitting at the top of his wish list: Rihanna.
Speaking during a conversation with composer Anthony Willis at the 2026 Tribeca Festival, the acclaimed songwriter and producer revealed that Rihanna would be his dream collaborator. However, he admitted that his own personality might prevent the collaboration from ever happening.
Rather than actively pursuing the opportunity, Finneas joked that he prefers to admire her work from afar.
“I’m taking notes from the distance so I can just keep doing that also,” he said.
While fans may be dreaming about what a Finneas and Rihanna collaboration would sound like, the producer also reflected on the moment he realized music was the career he wanted to pursue.
According to Finneas, seeing Green Day perform live when he was around 10 or 11 years old completely changed his outlook.
“I really have always wanted to make music for a living,” he explained. “I think I knew that from the time I was like 10 or 11 and I went and saw Green Day play a concert and I thought, ‘I can’t believe that’s a job. I want to do that job.'”
His admiration for Green Day has come full circle over the years. In 2025, Billie Eilish joined the legendary rock band onstage at the FireAid benefit concert for victims of the Los Angeles wildfires. Together, they performed Green Day’s 2009 song “Last Night On Earth.”
Following the performance, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong praised Eilish, calling it an honor to share the stage with her. Armstrong has long been vocal about his admiration for the singer, previously telling Billboard that he was drawn to her music because it sounded like “freedom” and represented an artist unafraid to express herself authentically.
For now, Finneas may be content studying Rihanna’s artistry from a distance. But if the opportunity ever presents itself, it’s hard to imagine music fans not wanting to hear what those two creative minds could build together.
